The Longstreet Memorial Fund exists for one purpose to erect a monument of General James Longstreet on the Gettysburg battlefield. Inspired by William Garrett Piston's book, Lee's Tarnished Lieutenant, the founders of the project have assembled an ever-growing team of supporters and state representatives including historians, authors, artists and scholars. The most difficult tasks are done:
Only one task remains: attainment of the financial goal of $250,000.

To date, $100,000 has been collected from thousands of contributors across the country in a grass roots effort to honor Lee's Old War Horse. The fund has increased from the sale of Longstreet memorabilia such as t-shirts, biographies by Dr. Piston andMr. Jeffry Wert, prints created specifically for the project, and bronze statues of both the General and the model of the monument. Special events have been planned by the Memorial Committee to assist in raising the remainder of the funds.
