<Dear> General

<Your letter of> 12 inst <received>

I find it necessary to hasten home by the

shortest route—and accordingly send you by

express a package of papers.

The five So. Hist. Soc. Papers are sent

because they are necessary to verify &

examine my statements-and it may

be that they are not at your hand.

If you will return them by mail or

express, after you are through with them,

I shall be obliged—Use your entire

convenience as to this.

Excuse this short note. I am greatly

hurried.
