Thanks for your kind ? of 16th. Keep the papers just as long as you like & I will be very glad also to have You make any marginal notes or comments ? occur to you. As I have never had the opportunity to visit the ground, I never knew of the distinction between the "Hill" & the " Ridge" & consequently doubtless have them confused

So also since the Fall of 1861 when Hooker & Sickles were in command on the lower Potomac opposite our evansport batteries ? tried to close the navigation of the Potomac I have been liable to confuse the names & use one when I mean the other. I will be greatly obliged for an opportunity to read your report & your letter in reply to Hancock
